Excerpt from “Field of Faith”

By: Emerson Huff

Jesus is the light of the world, as we read in John 8:12 (NKJV), “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

In this passage, the word light comes from the Greek root phós, meaning ‘source of light.’ Jesus is the source of light for us so that we should not perish in darkness but have everlasting life.

John 9:5 (NKJV) says, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Just like the sun is a light to the world, Jesus is the light of the world. In Matthew 28:7 (NKJV), we read, “And go quickly and tell His disciples that He has risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him…” Think about it: just like the sun has risen today, Jesus, the Son of God, has risen too!

Imagine how desperate people are for a source of light in this dark world. The hurting, broken, desperate, and hopeless generations are crying out for the Son to rise again in their lives. People are dying because they have lost their hope and need to see that the Son has risen.

Our main job description in life: to keep the Son risen high and not hidden. Matthew 17:8 (NKJV) states, “When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus.” We need to exalt the Son so high, that when people look up, all they see is Jesus.

We are called, as we read in John 1:8-9 (NKJV), to be messengers of the Light. Be encouraged to let the Son rise today in your life and shine to everyone you meet.

Prayer: In the name of Jesus, I call forth the Light to shine within me. Forgive me for hiding You, Jesus, and being ashamed of the radiance of Your glory. Teach me to let the Son rise and be exalted in everything I do. Thank You for rising as the sun and being faithful to keep Your promises. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
